Huh?! Not Fat Enough?

“You’re not plus size!”  “You’re not fat, you just have a stomach..”  You guys will not believe the comments I receive from my youtube channel in response to my plus size fashion-type videos.  The comments usually come from women who are over 100lbs bigger than I am.  It’s bad enough that for several decades, society has negatively portrayed women with extra pounds; but to receive the same backlash, although opposite, from fellow plus size women is quite disheartening.

Let me inform you all that I am not perpetrating  something that I am not.  Typically, plus size fashions begin at a size 12(w) and up, not size 20 plus.  Because I can fit into “some” F21 clothing doesn’t exclude me from using the term curvy or plus size.  If anything, my videos and blog show how depending on the cut and fabric, curvy to plus size women can shop at these stores.  To a curvy girl, lycra and stretch are mandates in the fabrics of our wardrobe.  Our clothing should be form-fitting NOT body hugging. Therefore, if I look slimmer than a typical plus size girl, that is because I know how to dress my body type to downplay the fat and showcase the curves.  Ladies, next time,  instead of lashing out you should be taking notes.

  2. Wow - it's crazy that larger plus sized women would even go there. But I've been following you on YT for quite some time. I love how you put it together and you really inspire my fashion decisions! Anyone who has anything negative to say has their own insecurities and need to get over it or put the fork down! *hmph*

  3. I totally agree! I usually wear XL tops and XXL jackets in order to fit my stomach and bust, and I wear 14 or 16 bottoms, I definitely consider myself plus and I agree with you that plus starts at 12/14 or XL. Until last year, I never went into Forever 21 because I assumed I couldn't fit anything. But lo and behold, I went with one of my skinny friends and I discovered I can fit a *few* of their tops.

  4. I've also strated a plus size fashion blog in my language and i have seen something like that, although not so much yet. I have the impression, sometimes, that some women are hiding behind their size and if they are not taking care of themselves they will put the blame on that, so when they see some plus size who looks gorgeous they will feel bad and will start making comparaison, which to me is totally the opposite of what plus size fashion is all about. Some women never learn to respect themselves and the others...

  6. it's interesting that people gave you that kind of feedback. In the UK plus size is anything from size 18+, sizes 6-16 is considered regular. But i do understand what your saying about dressing for your shape/form etc thats what is important whether one is size 6 or 36.
